Bodies of Light is created from photographs I took of Tori Amos during the In Times Of Dragons tour. The series is made through an experimental process of light, movement, and long exposure.

These photographs are my attempt to give form to the mystery of artistic inspiration, the muses, and the unseen presences Tori Amos has long described as moving through her music and performances, and the ways those ideas take shape in my own mind’s eye through her work.

Her work has been a part of my creative life for more than thirty years. These photographs come not just from artistic inquiry, but from a deep affection for the artist and the work that has accompanied so much of my life. When I photographed her for the first time, my own artistic language unexpectedly collided with that history, and Bodies of Light came from that collision. What began as an experiment with a single photograph unexpectedly developed into this body of work.

These images also come from my lifelong intuitive way of perceiving. Since childhood, I have experienced what some call auras: color and energy that extends beyond the visible body. These photographs try to give visual form to the way that I perceive.

I approach each photograph without a predetermined outcome, working in-camera with light, movement, and duration. I remain open to whatever might emerge. The process becomes a form of photographic scrying: an intuitive search for what might reveal itself when likeness begins to loosen and the visible body becomes a threshold.

Through this process, the images move further from documentation and closer to the experience I am trying to hold: the feeling that, through her music and performances, she seems to give form to something larger than herself.
